Amon Amarth is a Swedish melodic death metal band founded in 1992. Most of their songs are based on Norse mythology, an element which originated as a sub-genre of black metal in the early 1990s. Originally formed with the name Scum, they changed their name and released their demo recording, The Arrival of the Fimbul Winter, in 1994.
In 1998, Amon Amarth released their breakthrough album, Once Sent from the Golden Hall. This album fueled several international tours and spawned numerous music videos.
