Possessed is a death/thrash metal band from California formed in 1983. They are most recognized for their fast playing style and visceral vocals. The group is credited by many as a leading influence on the modern death metal scene. Their influence on the genre is so great, many speculate the term "death metal" originated from Possessed's demo, Death Metal.
Although the group broke up in 1993, they reunited in 2007 and have resumed touring.
