In conjunction with the club's move to Pizza Hut Park in 2005, the Dallas Burn have changed their name to FC Dallas. Also accompanying the new name is a new color scheme that features red, white and blue (the colors of both the American and Texas flags) and a hint of silver.
The team started construction on the stadium on February 18. This 115-acre facility will feature a 20,000-plus-seat soccer stadium that will serve as the new home of FC Dallas and accommodate other events such as major concerts, international soccer matches and high school football. Adjacent to the stadium will be 17 full-sized, tournament grade soccer fields, which can be utilized on a year-round basis, making the center the focal point of youth soccer in North Texas and one of the showcase facilities in the country.
On June 6, 1995, the Dallas Burn became a charter member of Major League Soccer. Ten short months later, 27,779 fans welcomed the top level of soccer in the United States to the Cotton Bowl as the Burn defeated San Jose in the team?s first-ever match.
In their nine years as members of MLS, the Burn were one of the most consistent teams in the league. Dallas qualified for the playoffs the first seven years of the team?s existence and came within one game of advancing to MLS Cup on two occasions. Additionally, the team added a major piece of hardware to the trophy case in 1997 by capturing the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup title.
