Salome  nubile and depraved; daughter of Herodias, "the Egyptian whore," and coveted stepchild of lascivious Herod, ruler of Judea. Oh, how she lusts after John the Baptist, who languishes in prison...
But the prophet rejects her, and Salome will do anything to have his head  including revealing all for Herod, who will give anything to see her perform the Dance of the Seven Veils.
Salome is a one act opera written by Richard Strauss, and based on the play by Oscar Wilde, has become even more famous than the play it is based on.
