Pelleas et Melisande is an opera in five acts with music by Claude Debussy. The French libretto was adapted from the symbolist play of the same name by Maurice Maeterlinck. Debussy's only completed opera, it received its first performance at the Opéra Comique in Paris in 1902.
Prince Golaud discovers the mysterious Mélisande lost in the forest near his castle. Enchanted, he marries her and brings her to his home. There she is drawn to Pelléas, Golaud’s half-brother, and in time the two fall dangerously in love.
Embracing you like a magical dream, this passionate love story is told with great musical sensitivity. Debussy’s only opera is a perfect synthesis of poetry and hauntingly beautiful music.
